The Board is created to advise the Commissioner on educational matters by evaluating educational programs, seminars, and training projects and make recommendations to the Commissioner of their usefulness and merit as continuing education tools. On the recommendation of the advisory board, the Commissioner may fund or underwrite specific classes, seminars, or events for the education and advancement of the auctioneer profession in this state.

The advisory board consists of: three licensed auctioneers appointed by the Commissioner who individually reside in noncontiguous senatorial districts; the Commissioner of the Texas Department of Commerce and the Commissioner of Education or their designees; and three consumers of services provided by licensed auctioneers. Consumer members consign property to auctioneers for sale and/or regularly buy at auctions.

Advisory board members serve two-year terms that expire on September 1. The advisory board shall designate one of its members as presiding officer. The presiding officer serves for two years. The advisory board shall meet at least quarterly each calendar year. The advisory board may meet at other times at the call of the presiding officer. Members do not receive compensation for serving on the advisory board or reimbursement for expenses.
