Vacancies for Public Members
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation announces vacancies for public members on the following boards: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors Advisory Board; Auctioneer Education Advisory Board; Board of Boiler Rules; Advisory Board on Cosmetology; Licensed Court Interpreters Advisory Board; Property Tax Consultants Advisory Council; and Towing, Storage and Booting Advisory Board. The purpose of the public member vacancies is to advise the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation (Commission) in adopting rules.
The public members are appointed by the presiding officer of the Commission, with the Commission’s approval. This announcement is for the position of a public member.

Public Member Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who can be a public member of an advisory board?
A person may not be a public member of the board if the person or the person’s spouse:
- Is registered, certified or licensed by TDLR in the industry or occupation under the jurisdiction of the advisory board or in a related industry or occupation;
- Is employed by or participates in the management of a business entity or other organization regulated by or receiving money from TLDR in the industry or occupation under the jurisdiction of the advisory board or in a related industry or occupation;
- Owns or controls, directly or indirectly, more than a 10 percent interest in a business entity or other organization regulated by or receiving money from TDLR in the industry or occupation under the jurisdiction of the advisory board or in a related industry or occupation;
- Uses or receives a substantial amount of tangible goods, services, or money from TDLR other than reimbursement authorized by law for board membership, attendance or expenses; or
- Is a TDLR employee.
2. What board(s) do I qualify to sit on?
If you meet the public member requirements you qualify to sit on any TDLR advisory boards which have public members. You may indicate a preference for a specific board on your application but the Commission may ask you to serve on a board(s) other than the boards you have indicated.
3. Am I required to serve on a board other than the board(s) I have selected?
No. Your service on the advisory board is voluntary.
4. Can I sit on more than one advisory board?
Yes. However, it is not likely that you will be asked to sit on more than one board.
5. How long is the term for the public member?
The actual service term is set by the statute regulating the board on which you sit. Advisory board members serve a term of no less than two years and no more than six (6) years. The terms of each member of a board are staggered throughout that time period.
6. Where can I get an application for a public member?
Applications are available for downloading on the agency web site. You may download the public member application or you may complete the application for the specific board for which you are applying.

8. Do I have to live in Texas to serve on an advisory board?
Yes. The advisory boards represent the citizens of Texas and are best served by resident of the state of Texas.
9. Where are advisory board meetings held?
Board meetings are held in Austin at the Department’s north campus meeting facility, located at 1106 Clayton Lane, Austin, Texas 78723.
10. How often do the advisory boards meet?
The meetings are designated by statute and need. The statute may set out a determined number of meetings however the board may need to meet more or less often based on the need for industry feedback. The boards will generally meet 2-3 times a year; rarely does a board meet more than four times in a year.
