Auctioneer Exam Information

Lower Exam Fees Starting September 1, 2015 - TDLR's mission is to honor the trust of all Texans, ensure public safety and consumer protection, and provide a fair, efficient licensing and regulation environment at the lowest possible cost. A Request for Proposal to seek candidates for the development and administration of TDLR's examinations has been reviewed. The Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation approved and awarded the contract to PSI on July 29, 2015. As a result of the competitive bidding process, TDLR and PSI have lowered the examination fees which will result in a total savings of $250,000 a year for candidates. These lower fees go into effect on September 1, 2015. The fee structure for each license type/exam type is available through the Candidate Information Bulletin link below.

Forms are available for download in Adobe Acrobat .pdf format. Acrobat Reader is necessary to view .pdf files. If you need to obtain a copy of this program it is available as a free download for Windows or Macintosh operating systems.

The Auctioneer examinations may be taken at several locations around the state. Once you meet all eligibility requirements, you will receive an eligibility postcard from PSI. The postcard contains instructions for registering and scheduling examinations. You should obtain the Candidate Information Bulletin (CIB) which provides you with detailed information about the examination administered by PSI.

Preparing for the Examination

The department and Texas Auctioneer Subject Matter Experts (SME) have revised the Auctioneer examination study guide to conform to recent Auctioneer law changes. The study guide is a useful tool for the preparation of the examination.

The SMEs decided to remove the “Green Book” published by the Texas Auctioneer Association from the list of approved reference materials because it is out of date.

The following are useful publications for the preparation of the examination. However, these publications will not be allowed in the examination site:
