TDLR Combats Human Trafficking

STOP HUMAN TRAFFICKINGTDLR recognizes the importance of its role in stopping human trafficking. Human trafficking is modern-day slavery and involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Our agency has aligned itself with the Governor’s and Attorney General’s initiatives to end human trafficking in Texas.

TDLR’s Efforts

  • TDLR is a member of the Texas Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force, established in 2009 with the enactment of House Bill 4009 and coordinated through the Office of the Attorney General.
  • TDLR Field Operations staff participated in training sessions conducted by the Texas Office of the Attorney General and the Department of Public Safety to learn how to identify signs of human trafficking. Field Operations staff conduct periodic, unscheduled, onsite inspections at various facilities throughout the state.
  • TDLR designated a human trafficking liaison who participates in regular human trafficking task force meetings, attends training and coordinates staff training and agency initiatives.
  • TDLR worked with Polaris to develop training for TDLR staff on human trafficking in massage establishments.
  • TDLR identified and reported suspected trafficking to the National Hotline for Human Trafficking, resulting in sharing information with the Department of Homeland Security.
  • TDLR organized a training on human trafficking for State of Texas communicators.
  • TDLR field inspectors carry information cards with the human trafficking hotline phone number and important human trafficking identifiers.
  • TDLR staff attended the 2016 Slave Free City Summit in Austin, a forum for staff to collaborate with other agencies to share information, develop an understanding of their roles, and create a plan.
  • TDLR posts human trafficking information on our social media accounts to help raise awareness.
